Ayaloram – A New Dawn in Elderly Care
As Kerala faces a growing demographic shift with increasing numbers of elderly parents left behind due to the migration of younger generations, the need for compassionate and sustainable elderly care has become more urgent than ever. At Vincentian Social Services (De Care), we believe that institutional care alone cannot address the emotional, social, and psychological needs of our aging population.
In response, we have launched Ayaloram—meaning “Next to Them”—a community-based elderly care initiative designed to promote healthy aging, emotional well-being, and social connection among senior citizens linked to our De Care Communities.
Ayaloram is not a care home—it is a vibrant therapeutic community where older adults come together regularly to:
Share life stories and experiences
Build meaningful friendships
Engage in games, activities, and group outings
Support one another emotionally and socially
This initiative is rooted in the belief that aging is not a decline, but a continuation of life worth celebrating. Ayaloram fosters dignity, joy, and participation—ensuring that elders are seen, heard, and embraced, not sidelined.
By empowering elderly communities to care for themselves and each other, Ayaloram moves beyond traditional models of elder care and paves the way for an age-inclusive society where the elderly are valued as vital members of the community.
