Education is the key that will allow many other Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be achieved. When people are able to get quality education they can break from the cycle of poverty. Education helps to reduce inequalities and to reach gender equality. It empowers people everywhere to live more healthy and sustainable lives. Education is also crucial to fostering tolerance between people and contributes to more peaceful societies.
De Scholars
De Scholars is a scholarship program aimed at the empowerment of the economically weak and aspiring children and the youth from all over India. It was launched in the context of the second wave of COVID 19 pandemic where children from our country lost either of their parents. By May 2021, we began with identifying children from poor backgrounds, the priority being the COVID victims. In this program, we assist the education of school going children and the students pursuing degree courses from the colleges through educational scholarships on a sustainable basis
KOOTTU- SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
Koottu is a program exclusively meant for the mainstreaming of people affected and infected with HIV. In collaboration with KSACS (Kerala State AIDS Control Society), De Care has identified children affected or infected with HIV and facing challenges in education due to poverty. The scholarship program includes monetary assistance, distribution of academic kits etc.
DE PAUL BOARDINGS
De Paul boardings provide children hailing from financially backward families a safe place to stay, learn and develop as socially responsible and educated citizens. The boardings operating in the rural areas of Tamil Nadu (Adaikalapuram and Chengam) have proved to be a changemaker in the cultural milieu of the area. The boardings are great sources of relief for the families that are struggling to make the both ends meet and cannot afford the educational expenses of their children. At our boardings, the children are provided with decent accommodation, quality education and nutritious food.
Skill Development Program
Having the right skills is the need of the hour. By the grace of God, we could begin a new program (Skill Development Program) on behalf of De Care. In collaboration with KIMS hospitals, we could enroll around 20 students from the coastal community of Poonthura, Trivandrum for the Patient Care Assistant course, which is a one year program. The collaboration with the KIMS will hopefully continue in the forthcoming years.
